30 Days of Dawson's Creek

Wanna know something, Miss Josephine Potter? I think the world may just surprise you yet. I mean, you fall in love and it doesn't work out, and you think it may never happen again, but it does. Believe me, it does, in the strangest place.

There were a ton of things  to love about this season that made it my favorite, out of the six.  Things like  the friendship between Jack and Jen, the fact that Jen was a cheerleader for a little while and that for a little while she found someone to make her happy in the craziest of places, and the slow sweet build up to Pacey and Joey. I even mildly enjoyed the Pacey/Joey/Dawson messy drama while still spending most of the season being frustrated with him. It was a season full of very well scripted and well written episodes that just did not disappoint and still, Pacey ended up with his girl if only for a little while.

Dawson's Creek: The ballad of a short life, well I've had just enough time.

Joey: Well she looks beautiful in the water.
Pacey: This morning was just a formality. We still don’t know if she’s seaworthy.
Joey: She looks pretty solid.
Pacey: I don’t know. She hasn’t seen any stormy weather yet.
Joey: Pacey…
Pacey: It’s over, isn’t it?
Joey: It has to be.
Pacey: You should be the one to go first this time.

You know what, screw Dawson and his stupid crap ultimatum's, when the truth was he NEVER ONCE saw her the way that Pacey did until he saw that SOMEONE ELSE wanted her and then he threw a tantrum and demanded like a little child that he be chosen OVER someone else (Pacey) who actually gave a damn about Joey and saw the beauty that she possessed BEFORE it was too late. Besides, he really can't say anything anyway, because he's the one who rejected Joey at the beginning of the season, asked Pacey to spend the year watching out for her, and then he has the gall to turn around and play the victim and act over-possessive of her like she's some sort of trophy to be won and put up on his mantle to take down whenever he feels like admiring her? Fuck no, it doesn't work that way.

But this, THIS, is one of the many reasons why I love Pacey and Joey. Neither one of them really wanted to say goodbye and you can certainly see on Joey's face that she didn't want to be there doing this, but she didn't want to hurt precious little Dawson's feelings either nor did Pacey. This is why I spent a great portion of this show during the whole Pacey/Joey/Dawson years (seasons) truly frustrated with Dawson, because he never once saw her the way that Pacey did and yet he still felt like he had every single right to lay claim to her and clearly he didn't deserve friends like these two, who were willing to put aside their happiness and sacrifice exploring what was between them in an effort to keep from hurting their friend Dawson's feelings.

To Dawson, I say freaking grow up and realize that you could have been there, you could have had her, if you would have just opened your frakking eyes, instead you didn't and now you don't or well rather you shouldn't have gotten a say in this.

Dawson's Creek: I was only looking for a shortcut home, but it's complicated.

Their sharp witty banter is was so very easily ALWAYS one of my favorite things about them and their relationship. It was like for either one of them, the other one would always be the last person on the face of the earth that they would ever choose to be with, and yet they ended up together because it wasn't something that they wanted from the beginning but there was always some underlying feeling there beneath the surface, there was always something that was there between them, a reason to care or a reason to just aggravate the other until one of both of them gave in.  

Dawson's Creek: Then I made a map and knew that somehow I could find my way back.

MOMENT #025;;

Pacey: What I said last night was way out of line. And yes, I was drunk. But more to the point, I was just plain wrong. And I want you to know that I’m really sorry.
Joey: Well, I was worried about you too, Pacey.
Pacey: Me? Why?
Joey: Well, because I mean, Satan himself could lead Dawson into the fiery pits of hell, and he would still emerge with his moral code firmly intact. But you, maybe I think that nobody is worrying about you right now.
Pacey: So then, what you’re really saying then is, given the highly dysfunctional nature of our relationship, this is how you express concern for me.
Joey: You gotta learn to read between the banter, Pacey.

This is largely a big part of the reason that I LOVE these two so much. This is Joey pretty much admitting that she cares about Pacey, cares what happens to him, and even when he acts like a world class jackass and doesn't really deserve it - he still comes to her front door to apologize and she still tells him that she cares in her own way. I think it's pretty much safe to say that these two did their level best to put the "fun" in dysfunctional, but I'm glad they got their own version of a happy ending.

Dawson's Creek: she belongs to fairy tales that I could never be.

Pacey:  So hypothetically speaking... if I were lucky enough one day to find myself owning a sailboat again, and I were to ask the woman that I love to go sailing with me... would she?
Joey: You wouldn't have to ask, Pace.

It's crazy how one particular fictional couple can change how you view the world in terms of love and happiness, but these two crazy kids have done just that. They were beautiful and tragic and angsty and happy in every aspect of their relationship. They were the two characters that I wasn't sure were going to get their happy ending, but I was pleased to see that they did. For years I hated the term "soulmate" because it reminded me of one Dawson Leary and let's just say, that wasn't something I enjoyed that much. However, I love that these two weren't looking for it and yet just sort of stumbled into it and really gave themselves over even through all of the guilt and the agonizing over hurting said person in common, when it came down to it these two were just meant to be and I'm glad they got their happy ending. It sort of gives me hope, a little.
